Photo of Drone Soccer Staff with Award

Dixon Schools Drone Soccer program continues to progress and is gaining some attention from around the state.

Our Drone Soccer program was just awarded the Vision Award from the Illinois Learning Technology Center.  The award is for “recognizing people and school districts in Illinois for empowering educational change through technology.”  The award was presented at the Illinois Education Technology Conference(IETC) in Springfield on November 13th.  Several members of our drone soccer crew were on hand to receive the award, Nick Haws, Paul Wilson, Charlie Bishop and Jim Manley.

As well as receiving the award, our team at IETC also gave a Drone Soccer demonstration. About 70 participants from schools and educational institutions from around the state stopped in to learn about our drone soccer program and many took the opportunity to fly a drone in our portable arena.  It was a fun event and many participants were hoping to find ways to help implement a drone soccer program in new areas of the state.

Our drone soccer team has been out to several events this year to share information about our program and student engagement in this high tech sport. We have been asked to host the Regional Tournament/Qualifier for the second year, leading to the National Tournament in Alexandria, Virginia.  We expect to host our tournament in February. Keep an eye out for more details!
