Dixon High School has a Computer Club, currently meeting Wednesday nights after school. Some students in the club previously were members of the esports and Coding Club, and are currently combined into one group. While there are plans to explore a variety of topics, the focus for most students for the start of the year has been drones.
The school has a Drone Soccer kit, and students have been spending weeks assembling and programming drones. It's very detailed and intricate work the students have been able to dig into with the guidance of the district Technology Department.
During the last club meeting in September, the inflatable arena was assembled, and some of the students had a chance to fly with their club members as they start to get some flight practice.
Going forward, the students will learn the rules of drone soccer and sportsmanship as they prepare to have some scrimmages among the group. Hopefully, we'll be able to eventually do some friendly competitions with students from other schools.
Other students in the club have been learning to solder small electronics and tear down computers as they learn the components of desktop computers. Going forward, the club expects to do more coding, work with 3D printing and other new technologies.
